There is a benefit of registering early and that is an early discount fee is applied. Registrations taking place after that date must pay the full registration amount. You are also taking a chance that your child could be placed on a waiting list.
Q: What cheques do I need for registration?
You need three cheques for registration: The first is dated for today for the player's registration fee and fundraising fee. The second is a $100 Uniform Deposit Cheque dated for June 30. Q: Does my child always play at Unwin Park?
Blastball, Tee Ball, and Tadpole play all of their games at Unwin Park. Mosquito travels to North Delta and Surrey Canadian parks only, NCBA being their home park. Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget and Junior Men's are traveling divisions and use our park as their home.
BASEBALL — Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What division is my child in?
Divisions are determined by a child's birth year. Please see our registration form for further information. We have the following divisions for players ages 4 — 24; Blastball, Tee Ball, Tadpole, Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget and Junior Men's.
Q: When are the games for Blastball, Tee Ball, Tadpole and Mosquito?
Blastball games are on Sunday afternoons. NCBA does not have set playing nights for divisions. Games are scheduled on all 7 days of the week and teams usually play 2 games per week. Game time on weeknights is 5:30pm until May 1 and 6pm from thereafter. Game times on Saturdays are 9am, 12pm, 3 pm & 6pm and game times on Sundays are 12pm & 3pm. Each player in Tee Ball thru Mosquito is given a playing schedule at the beginning of the season with all of their game times listed.
Q: What if my child wants to play on the same team as a friend?
In Tee Ball and sometimes Tadpole we try to accommodate kids wanting to play together. Requests are made through the division coordinator for your child's division by email only. Division coordination information is found on the website under the Executive tab. However requests are not guaranteed. For Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget we cannot make the same arrangement because those divisions' teams are determined by a draft.
Q: How long does the season last?
The baseball season starts at the beginning of April and closes on Father's Day in June. However, there may be games that will still need to be played after Father's Day.
Q: When are the practices?
The amount of practices and times are determined by each individual Coach.
Q: Do I have to have coached baseball before to coach my child's team?
Q: What equipment does my child require?
Each child will require a baseball glove, batting helmet and athletic protection. Kids generally start wearing cleats in Mosquito however, cleats are highly recommended starting in Tadpole. Metal cleats are not allowed until the Bantam level. The Mosquito division and up are also required to supply their own GREY baseball pants.
Q: Does my child have to attend evaluations or try-out?
Yes, players in Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget and Junior Men's are asked to attend an evaluation and try out day. This session helps the Coaches assess the player's skills so when teams are put together they can be as balanced as possible. This session usually lasts about 1 ½ hours and is held prior to the season beginning.
Q: What are the rules and number of innings played in my child's division.
For the Mosquito division and lower, game rules follow those in the special rules of Newton Canadian Baseball Association and the BC Minor Baseball Association (BCMBA) rule book. The rules of NCBA shall supersede those of the BCMBA. For Pee Wee and higher divisions, game rules follow those in the rule book of the BC Minor Baseball Association found here: http://www.bcminorbaseball.org/Rulebook.aspx

Q: My child is interested in becoming an Umpire.
Q: What equipment does my child require for Umpiring?
Each Umpire is required to be dressed in a black BC Umpire Association sleeved shirt and grey pants. All Plate umpires from Bantam and up must supply their own protective gear. Pee Wee plate umpires are also encouraged to obtain protection as well. An Umpire bag, clicker, plate dusting brush, pen and paper are also required.
Q: How are Umpires schedule for games?
NCBA games are assigned by scheduler.ca, an official scheduling system. You must have a computer to accept or decline games. You will be assigned a log in and password. It is your responsibility to block times you are not available to work on the scheduler calendar. Assignments will be given out and the umpire will have 48 hours to accept or reject the assignment. Otherwise, the assignment may be moved to another umpire. Once accepted, an assignment is expected to be fulfilled unless there is a very good explanation. Giving up an assignment for insufficient reason may result in the loss of future game assignments.
Q: How are games assigned?
Games are assigned for the whole season. Games are assigned fairly and equally between umpires. You are encouraged to get your availability into the scheduler system because there may not be many games left and available for you should you decline games.
Q: How are Umpires paid?
Umpires are paid by cheque calculated by month. April's games will be paid within the first 2 weeks of May. Once the cheques are ready, they will be either mailed out or left at the concession for pick-up.
Q: What if it's raining am I still umping?
The website www.newtonbaseball.com has field information posted on the main page near the top. If the site indicates the fields are closed, games are cancelled for that day and you do not need to show up. If there is a cancellation for any other reason, you will receive a call that the game is cancelled. Be sure your phone number is current and correct. Otherwise, show up for the game.
Q: When do I need to be at the field?
You are expected to be at the field ready to go no later than 15 minutes before game time.
