Looking forward to the upcoming season

Newton umpires:

Welcome to the 2011 season.

There are several changes upcoming this season that you need to be aware of.

Umpire assignments will be done primarily by email through the scheduler system as happened last year. Assignments will be given out and the umpire will have 48 hours to accept or reject the assignment. Otherwise, the assignment may be moved to another umpire. Once accepted, an assignment is expected to be fulfilled unless there is a very good explanation. Giving up an assignment for insufficient reason may result in the loss of future game assignments.

Anyone not remembering their access codes for scheduler, send me an email and I will let you know your codes.

For equipment needs, contact David Barry, the Newton Treasurer.

All umpires will be required to be members in good standing of BCBUA. As the clinics are finished, this can be accomplished by registering at www.bcbua.ca (Level 2 or higher only).

Be aware that assignments are being done for the whole season. I am trying to ensure a good number of games are assigned to everyone. You are encouraged to get your availability into the scheduler system because there may not be many games left and available for you should you turn games back.

North Delta also uses scheduler and you may be contacted directly for games for them should you wish.

Game fees in Newton (2011) are as follows (plate, then base)

• Mosquito $20 / $16
• PeeWee $28 / $20
• Bantam $36 / $28
• Midget $44 / $36
• Junior (9 innings) – $70 / $60

As last year, mentorship bonus will be paid for selected situations.

Payment will be monthly by cheque.

A reminder – ALL ejections for Newton games MUST have ejection reports filed within 24 hours. If reports are not submitted, you risk losing your game fee and possibly future games. Call me should you need help in filing the report.

Unless you are contacted by either my wife or myself, you MUST show up at all assignments AT LEAST 15 minutes before game time. If no teams are there or your partner doesn’t show up, contact me as soon as possible.

Game changes (time/cancellation/etc.) will be phoned to you if within 48 hours of game time.

If you are not able to fulfill an assignment that you have already accepted, I MUST be phoned and know the reason why. Do not rely on email for that.
