By Webmaster, 01/10/20, 5:45PM PST

Surrey Canadian Baseball Association and Newton Canadian Baseball Association are pleased to announce that Phillip Quan has been selected as the Head Coach of the Surrey/Newton Spring Peewee AA team.  Phillip brings many years of coaching experience and Provincial certification to the position.  A former Mosquito Provincial Champion head coach, he most recently coached 2019 Summer Bantam A with Surrey Canadian.  Working with Coach Phillip off the field in a more general management role will be Doug Baxter.  Doug is a long-time executive member and coach at Newton Canadian and a knowledgeable and connected baseball person.  As a Peewee AA/AAA parent last Spring / Summer, Doug understands well the U13 AA league and the level of competition.  With Phillip on the field and Doug off the field, the club is in great hands.  Assistant Coaches will be added to the mix as the roster becomes clearer.

The following are plans for the pre-season of Spring U13 Peewee AA baseball.

Practices for all players interested in trying out for this merged team will commence Thursday, January 16.  Two workouts are scheduled indoors each week up until March 12 when the team is expected to be selected and confirmed for the Spring season. Additional outdoor practices will be added as weather conditions improve.

Practices will be held:

  *   Thursdays from 7:00-8:30pm at MB Sanford Elementary located at 7318 143 Street, Surrey , BC.  (There will be a fee of $50 for 9 weeks of facility use)

  *   Saturdays from 2:30-4:00pm or 4:00-5:30pm at Lionel Courchene Batting Cage. (Coaches will divide the entire group into two squads to maximize cage time)

Players should wear running shoes in both facilities.  No cleats.  Baseball attire unless otherwise instructed by coaches.  Bring gloves, bats, helmets, personal catcher’s gear.

All players interested in working out with this team must be registered for U13 play at either Surrey Canadian or Newton.  Import players need BC Minor authorization to try out or a signed Player Movement Form by the association in the player’s BC Minor territory.  No exceptions as only registered players have insurance coverage through our Provincial sport organization.   Online registration is available on both SCBA and NCBA websites.
