Hello all

Please see below for Baseball BC's announcement on suspension of all baseball until further notice due to Covid 19.  We are currently refunding Spring baseball fees paid to the same credit card used for payment.  Please allow some time to see your refund on your statement.

In addition, we have cancelled the Spring Ross Tournament and will be refunding this payments as well.

Please stay safe everyone in these difficult times and lets hope we can resume this wonderful sport in the coming months.

Suspension of Play - Covid-19 Concerns

    By Webmaster 03/13/2020, 10:00am PDT

Effective immediately all Newton Baseball activities including but not limited to practices, clinics, etc. are suspended as per communication from Baseball BC found below. We are complying with the recommendation for the safety of our players, families and community.

As per Baseball BC communicated on March 17, 2020:

Effective immediately Baseball BC has extended the suspension of all sanctioned in person baseball activity indefinitely.

Baseball BC sanctioned activities include but are not limited to, all tournaments, practices, games, coach and umpire education and team building activities. The intent of this suspension is to limit situations of physical contact.

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is rapidly changing the way that we, as global citizens, think, act, gather, learn, and live our daily lives. That includes how we play baseball.

With the most recent announcements from the public heath officials and the government, Baseball B.C. is suspending all sanctioned in person baseball activity indefinitely.

This decision is difficult, but it is our duty to help society follow social distancing protocols (keeping at least 6 feet apart and avoiding congregate settings). It is our hope that by doing this, we will all play a small, but important part in flattening the curve in the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation and take our guidance from public health officials, the government, and Baseball Canada.

Baseball B.C. is committed to doing the best we can for the safety and well-being of our players, families, volunteers, and fans.

We urge all member organizations and affiliates to enforce and support the suspension of in person baseball activities in their respective associations as well.

Baseball BC and its member organizations pride themselves on providing a safe haven for our youth to enjoy the outdoors and learn the sport of baseball.

Baseball BC will review advice from health and senior sport organizations as they are provided and will monitor the situation in hopes that baseball activities will resume as soon as it’s safe to do so.  We will issue further notices when it is appropriate to do so.

Girls Baseball Program with Baseball BC

    By Webmaster 01/31/2020, 1:15pm PST

As an expansion to the BC Girls Baseball Development & Instructional program, Baseball BC has started a pre-season development league to help prepare girls for the season ahead. The program is designed for girls ages 6-12, on Thursday evenings from Feb. 13 to Mar. 12 (5 weeks) and serves to develop confidence, skill and resilience prior to joining their Spring & Summer teams, whether it’s a predominantly male team, the BC Girls Baseball Instructional League, etc.

The goal of the program is to help girls continue to excel on teams & in leagues with the newfound confidence of knowing that there are other girls that play the same sport that they do.   As someone who grew up strictly playing "boys" baseball until the age of 12, I know that joining a brand-new male-dominated team every season can be nerve wracking. This program can help calm the nerves of female players by providing a safe space for skill development alongside mentors from the Women's National Team, and Team BC. It is also an excellent place for curious friends to come try out a new sport! Plus, it'll be a lot of fun!

Baseball can be more diverse & inclusive, so please spread the word by posting on you association webpage, social media feeds or other ways that could help.

Here is the link to our girl's instructional league page for more information!

    Interested in Coaching Fall Ball?

Fall ball is a developmental opportunity and is designed to have less competitive focus than spring baseball. It is structured so players can play another sport in the fall and still participate.

If you are wanting to get started as a coach -  Fall ball is a good time to step up and get involved.

Please let us know your interest by contacting Kellie Simicak at secretary@newtonbaseball.com.

Fall Ball - South Fraser Giants - Midget AAA

The South Fraser Giants will be offering Midget AAA fall ball this year.  Fall ball will run through the months of September & October.  Separate winter training opportunities will be offered in the following months to those interested. The team will use Holly Park in Surrey as it’s homefield, this fall.

This is a great opportunity for Midget aged kids to get quality coaching instruction & development opportunities.  The goal of fall ball is strictly player development.

There will be two practices a week & double headers games on the weekends.  The team will also be in a tournament, which will be available for a select number of players.  Players will also be introduced to a strength & conditioning program throughout the fall.

We understand some athletes may be busy with other sports.  We welcome dual athletes & part time players for the fall season.

The program will be run by Head Coach Tyler Lawson.  He will be joined by a team of assistant coaches.  More information on the coaching staff will be released closer to the fall season.

    Cost: $215

Players will receive two practice shirts & a hat with registration.

    Summer Ball FAQs

    What is Summer Ball?

Summer Ball is an ‘All-Star’ program that is available in each division from Tadpole through Midget.

    When is Summer Ball season?

Summer Ball begins with assessments and tryouts in early-mid June, with games beginning the July 1 long weekend.  Mosquito Summer Ball season is quite intense and includes approximately 2 games per week throughout June, plus practices and tournament(s).  Teams that are successful in the June schedule of games (qualifiers) will qualify for Provincial Championships (August Long Weekend).  The Provincial Championships signify the end of the Summer Ball season.

Who is eligible to play Summer Ball?

All players who played in either Surrey Canadian or Newton Canadian programs in the Spring season are eligible to try out for the Summer Ball teams.

    How are players selected?

The 3 Summer Ball teams will be determined by open tryouts.  After the tryouts, the division coordinators and coaches will evaluate the results and make the final determination as to which players will make the team or not.  Depending on how many kids try out, some unfortunately could not be selected for a team.

    What are the Commitment Requirements?

Summer Ball requires a significant commitment.  Players need to commit to being available for practices, games and tournaments from the end of June through the August long weekend.  Rosters will be large enough to make it okay (possibly) to miss a week during the season, but not during Provincials when we will want all players available.

    Where are Provincials held?

Mosquito Summer Ball Provincials will be held in:

    • AAA (Tier 2)        North Delta
    • AA                          Oceanside
    • A                             Kamloops

    PeeWee AA Provincial Champions

Congratulations to our Surrey Newton PeeWee AA team on their dramatic win at the 2018 BC provincials. As Provincial Champions they are representing us as Team BC at a major tournament in San Diego.

    Valley of Champions

Both Surrey Newton Rep teams acquitted themselves well at the weekend's Valley of Champions Tournament in Kelowna. PeeWee AA capped off a dominant tournament performance by beating Abbotsford in the finals while the Bantam AA fell just short against a strong Prince George side.

Midget AA Win In Dramatic Fashion

In a tight back and forward game a sac bunt and suicide squeeze at the top of seven sealed the deal! The merged Surrey / Newton Midget AA Mets bested a strong North Shore team in the final game of spring. A great way to end the season and for the aged out players to finish their tenure at the Club. Shimpachi "Patch" Meta will be returning to Japan after three years with the club.

PeeWee A Newton Timbers win Spring Tier

Newton Timbers won the Tier 2 Championship yesterday 8-7!

Tied going into bottom of 7th, with 2 outs and 2 strikes on him, Thomas Reidy hit the winning single down 3rd base to score the runner from 2nd capping a brilliant team performance and beating a strong Cloverdale team..

The kids all did fantastically well playing 6 games in the playoffs and winning the last 5 in a row to cap off the spring season.
